Why We Are Writing This Torah
A tribute that lives forever
A Sefer Torah is the holiest and most sacred object in Jewish life — every one of the 304,805 letters handwritten by a specially trained scribe, using the same traditions passed down from Mount Sinai thousands of years ago.
The writing of a community Sefer Torah is a rare and deeply meaningful milestone. It becomes a lasting symbol of Jewish continuity, unity, and spiritual connection that will be cherished for generations to come.
In memory of Jonathan “Johnny” Ellis A”H, our community is coming together to write a new Sefer Torah that will serve as an eternal legacy for his soul. Through every letter written and every future reading from this Torah, Johnny’s warmth, love for Judaism, and impact on others will continue to inspire and live on forever.
